Pensacola State College absorbed its share of damage during Hurricane Sally in 2020. Ashmore Auditorium was one of the buildings impacted by the hurricane as strong winds damaged the roof and the building experienced severe flooding. The most challenging aspect of roof replacement centered around the auditorium’s smoke vents. When contractors realized the opening required a custom product, BILCO’s outside sales representative, Waldo Brothers, worked with BILCO’s engineering team to develop a solution.

To install the new vents, workers removed nearly 4,000 pounds of cement from a cast-in-place structure on the roof. With assistance from a crane, saw cutter and intense labor, workers cut holes to match the size of the new BILCO acoustical smoke vents.
